We are excited to bring the annual spring meeting to Ann Arbor, Michigan. This meeting will be March 24-25 with governance meetings taking place on March 23.  The program, Breakthrough to Excellence, has a variety of topics which will keep your attention throughout the two days.  As always, the meeting will provide CMEs for physicians, physicists, and technologists.  Several of lectures will provide SAMS credits (self-assessment modules) for audience participation and learning.  The highlights of the meeting include:

  • Recent advances in nuclear cardiology imaging systems and reconstruction techniques.
  • The utilization of PET/CT in cardiac imaging.
  • Techniques to optimize PET imaging and identify artifacts.
  • Infection/inflammation imaging using 18F-FDG.
  • The current PERCIST criteria and methods to mitigate the effect of tumor burden.
  • Update of the transition from HEU to LEU Radiopharmaceuticals.
  • EKG terminology, basic and abnormal rhythms, and identification of EKG abnormalities.
  • Review of radiation safety and methods to reduce exposure.

Expanding the topics outside of traditional clinical imaging arena, we have asked two highly qualified speakers to present on current issues within the workplace.  The issues are pertinent to the news in today’s society. They will touch base on harassment, discrimination, and hostile work environments.  Dr. McCabe will speak on addictions and impairments that could affect both your personnel and professional lives.

During the annual meeting, the SNMMI leadership discusses the challenges continuing to be faced by nuclear medicine physicians and technologists, and provide updates on how the SNMMI works to protect our profession. For our technologist students, don’t forget to sign up for the Quiz Bowl where students from different schools compete against each other in a nuclear medicine knowledge-based, jeopardy-style competition for bragging rights and to earn their name on the Quiz Bowl trophy! A special thank you to Siemens Healthineers for sponsoring this event!

Don’t forget, the Kensington Inn is located in the parking lot of Briarwood Mall for those of you who like to shop.  If you are looking to explore Ann Arbor, there are numerous restaurants and entertainment options.  We have worked really hard on putting together a strong program that we hope you will enjoy!  Looking forward to seeing everyone on March 24, Sharon Updike and Shelli Kritzman
